Sorry the picture is fuzzy but this is our girl at about 308 days along. She is getting a little more of a barrel in her gut from the baby and more edgy and moody. Her appetite is increasing too because probably the baby is growing more rapidly and so is her milk supply. Her appetite should decrease right before she foals. She doesn't want me to touch her anymore on her flanks (sides of her tummy near her hips) or near her tail. She just keeps moving circles pretty much saying 'Back Off!' We are thinking she will probably foal within the next 2 weeks...... We will see! Like I said before, it's a guess with horses.
Her tail end is starting to soften up more too along the base of the tail. The top arrow is of her tail base and will be hard because it is her 'tail bone'. But down the sides, flanking her tail are almost at a soft and squishy stage and they will progress more so as she gets further along. This will allow the foal to pass through when she delivers.
Just to notice changes in her udder as she progresses. She has filled out more in the back end and then there are some large veins appearing just in front of her udder on her tummy. The crease in the middle will almost be non-existent when her milk supply increases. This will happen right before the foal is born or right after.
