Success is shared around our household no matter how small or big it is. So today in our home school life, this was worth a share.
For those that don't know I am home schooling my kids this year and with moving from Europe to the USA and being in limbo with moving and getting our things and now only having a few weeks before I have another baby in our household, I have not been the animated fun educator that my kids use to know. I peek out every once in a while but with some fatigue with being pregnant, getting my boys to do school work has been frustrating at times to say the least.
So today we had a little fun with school.
Taking advantage of the beautiful day we were having, they were playing 'recess' outside while I prepared for the day and then we started our game.
It was kind of like 'Mother May I' or 'Simon Says' without having to ask permission or say the phrase. I had them start at a certain point in the yard and I would ask them questions that pertained to Math, Science and Language arts. If they got the question's right then they got to do something funny with their bodies and move around our imaginary game board in our yard. (For an example run to the fence while barking like a dog, come back half way while jumping like a rabbit, sit on the bench, take 5 scissor steps forward...and so on). I always made it a success for them too. If they got a question wrong we would talk about it to understand it better and they could go half way to where I was taking them or I would ask another question to see if they could get it right. They were anxious to review what we had learned so far this year. It was a fun change to the everyday learning routine and they did really well. We would have breaks for snacks or some recess and then come back to the game to ask more questions. It was a success that was worth a share in my book and I got to sit and relax while asking questions and enjoying them. So no matter where you are and feel a little stuck you can always change things up a bit with a little fun.
